About this trip idea
Allow 1 day.
The beckon of the Lake Michigan waves and sun are what captivate travelers to the Michigan City-LaPorte area , but what waits in the depths of the county will have vacationers escaping to the inner city’s shade.
Eat Until You’re Blue in the Face
LaPorte County is known for its vast abundance of blueberries in Indiana and what better way to experience the hype than getting to taste for yourself? Blueberries of Indiana situated in LaPorte allows visitors to pick their own blueberries in the quiet, rural fields of Northern Indiana. If the art of picking fresh blueberries isn’t for you, have someone else do it for you - employees are available to do the dirty work while you indulge in a picnic under one of the giant oak trees nearby.
Take a Stroll Around the World
Located in Michigan City, the International Friendship Gardens botanical beauty will take your breath away with every step along the path. Four gardens are available that each represent a different country or heritage - Native American, Norwegian, Polish and Romanian - and provide something unique and distinct from the other. It’s no wonder why the gardens hold a number of weddings and houses the Symphony Garden Theater each year. Three new gardens are being developed - Scottish, Greek and German - to add to the attractive abode.
