START HERE: ATLANTA Save your appetite for Lisa’s Pie Shop, where delectably flaky pies are expertly turned out in varieties including Indiana’s official one: sugar cream. The bakery’s famous Pie in a Jar makes it easy to grab a bite for the road too.


2 NOBLESVILLE (13 miles/21 min.) Brick-lined streets are home to charming indie boutiques, eateries, First Friday celebrations and more. Many are centered around the historic town square.


3 FISHERS (8 miles/16 min.) Step into the past at Conner Prairie Interactive History Park, where it’s easy to imagine what life was like in 19th-century Indiana. Tour the Lenape Indian camp or 1836 Prairietown areas, take the 1863 Civil War Journey or fly high in a hot-air balloon. Costumed interpreters and immersive, interactive experiences throughout 800 acres of wooded property bring to life the events that shaped the Midwest.


4 CARMEL (8 miles/19 min.) Get your shopping fix at Clay Terrace, an outdoor mall featuring both local and national shops, or take in a show at the Palladium, the lush the- ater that routinely hosts internationally renowned performers.


5 ZIONSVILLE (10 miles/21 min.) This town’s charming Main Street, paved in cobblestones, beckons you to spend the day shopping, tasting, taking in art and much more. Browse local boutiques like Lesley Jane, then settle in for a gourmet taco and marg at the hip Salty Cowboy.


6 INDIANAPOLIS (18 miles/26 min.) Indiana’s capital city has something for every taste; a good place to start is White River State Park, home to several museums, an IMAX Theater, the Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens, The Lawn amphitheater, and tons of green space across 250 acres. Park once, play all day.


7 PLAINFIELD (19 miles/26 min.) Sip and swirl at Chateau Thomas Winery, which crafts vino from grapes imported from the west coast. Find wine-aficionado gifts at the large shop on-site, and take in a concert al fresco at the outdoor music venue.


8 GREENWOOD (27 miles/36 min.) Make a splash at the Freedom Springs Greenwood Aquatics Center, a new, state-of-the-art water park with a lazy river, slides and more.


9 FRANKLIN (10 miles/19 min.) Classic films screen every two weeks at the Historic Artcraft Theatre, an Art Deco gem; it’s right next to the town’s courthouse square, a great place for a leisurely stroll.



10 SHELBYVILLE (16 miles/22 min.) Try your luck at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino, home to 2,000 slots and e-table games, plus seasonal live thoroughbred and quarter-horse racing.
