About this trip idea

Enjoy the local art, flavor and natural beauty of Lafayette-West Lafayette.

Come feast your eyes on one-of-a-kind artwork in the heart of downtown Lafayette. Artists’ Own  , a unique artistic shop that features the works of 22 award winning local and regional artists, showcases a diverse range of art to satisfy the soul. Watch local artists take slabs of clay and create beautiful pieces of pottery at Grateful Heart Gallery  . Walk and shop along blocks of downtown Lafayette retail shops  and art galleries  where specialty items of any kind can be found and admired.

While downtown, take in the turn-of-the-century architecture and the pride of Lafayette; the Tippecanoe County Courthouse  . Stroll across the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge  to admire the beauty of the Wabash River that divides two great cities, Lafayette and West Lafayette.  This bridge is the site not only for festivals and special events, but links visitors to the Amtrak Station.  Every summer local musicians play weekly entertaining visitors outside the train station, in an area called Riehle Plaza.  In September, Art on the Wabash , a local artists’ fair offers art lovers a chance to not only shop for art pieces, but to meet the artists who create them.

Arts and culture adventures can get the taste buds buzzing, and Bistro 501  , with its fine French cuisine will satisfy.  Enjoy the flavor and style of the French countryside at this beautiful downtown bar and restaurant, where summer nights feature sidewalk seating and moonlit conversation, and winter evenings are celebrated beside a roaring fire.

If you are in the mood for a good burger, look no further than Triple XXX Family Restaurant  , Indiana’s oldest drive-in, located in West Lafayette. Triple XXX is famous for its root beer but the Duane Purvis All-American Burger has made a name for itself as one of the top 4 sandwiches in 46 Super Sandwiches in Indiana. A burger for the more adventurous, this ¼ pound of 100% ground sirloin is served with thick, creamy peanut butter, melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion on a toasted sesame seed bun.
