About this trip idea
Get acquainted with Madison,Indiana, one of the Midwest’s favorite small towns.
When you arrive in Madison, the first thing you’ll notice is the amazing architecture in our National Historic Landmark District. Next you will see all the shops and restaurants in those buildings, so you might as well get started on Madison’s Main Street with a stop at Cocoa Safari Chocolates . Deb uses the finest chocolate to handcraft her confections. Better get some for yourselves and a little something to take back home.
While you are cruising & shopping Main Street, you’ll notice some great stores and galleries with Madison-made products and art. Stop at The Artisan Gallery at Madison Tableworks to see custom crafted tables, you can even design your own, and fine art.
Because Madison is known for its historic sites, you’ll want to tour at least one of them. We have 9! Lanier Mansion State Historic Site is open for tours year round. This 1844 Greek Revival Home is considered the Crown Jewel of Madison’s historic district.
Just up the street, stop at The Attic Coffee Mill Café for lunch and a piece of their famous Dutch Apple Pie on your way to Clifty Falls State Park . You can take a hike, easy to rugged choices, at Clifty or just admire the views. There are 7 waterfalls and plenty of scenic vistas for photo taking.
Or…you might want to rent a bike at Fizz’s Bike Shop and head to Madison’s riverfront. It’s an easy ride and we’d suggest a picnic or some wine & cheese from Thomas Family Winery .
In the evening, choose one of our fine dining restaurants – Bistro One or Crystal & Jewels or something more casual like the Downtowner or Red Pepper. A stay at one of our B&Bs, Guest Houses or hotels will have you ready to explore more.
