Splendid Spelunking

“Spelunking” is just a fun word to say. And it’s even more fun to do when you’re in this part of the state with so many cave options. Indiana Caverns Adventure Park is the state’s newest cave park to explore. Your tour includes an underground boat ride, and you can also ride the Bat Chaser aerial coaster. The large rooms and formations in Marengo Cave make you feel like you’re in another world. And you can see underground streams and mine for gems at Squire Boone Caverns, named for the American pioneer who discovered the caverns in 1790.

Historic Corydon

Corydon was Indiana’s government center from 1816 to 1825, and at the Corydon Capitol State Historic Site, you can follow Indiana’s development from a territory to a state. See a copy of the 1815 Census that helped officials prove the territory’s population and take a walk to see the preserved trunk of the Constitution Elm, where it’s believed the original 43 delegates gathered to draft the state’s first constitution. Learn about more Indiana history and the southern Indiana cave system at the state-of-the-art Harrison County Discovery Center.

Grapes Were Born for This

The Harrison County area has four wineries for your tasting tour. Best Vineyards is a small farm winery that distills your favorite spirits in addition to premium wines. You can also pick your own raspberries and elderberries when they’re in season. Mark and Mary Kendall started Indian Creek Winery after doing a winery tour throughout the southeastern U.S. Take a seat indoors or out to enjoy scenic views and live music along with your wine and cheese platters. Quibble Hill Winery is housed in a two-story log cabin, where the bottom floor is the fermentation and production area, and the top floor is the tasting room. Take a tour and then relax on the lawn or deck as you sample from 30 wines at Turtle Run Winery.
