The Museum of the Coal Industry
The discovery of massive coal deposits transformed Southwestern Indiana from quiet prairies and woodlands into a key energy source for America's economy. the Museum of the Coal Industry celebrates that rich history and explains coal mining's role in our state's history.
Founded in 1985 & built upon beautifully reclaimed mining land, the museum offers an extensive collection of memorabilia, artifacts, and books on coal mining, along with several exhibits.
"Tinker Bell" Locomotive -- This carefully restored 1940 EMD SW1 diesel switcher served the Peabody Lynnville Mine from 1968 to 1999.
Company Store & House -- Built using construction methods from the 1880-1930 era to show how miners lived and worked.
