Visitors are often surprised to discover the Indiana Dunes has a 15-mile Lake Michigan coastline with sandy beaches for splashing, playing, and relaxing. They’re equally amazed by the towering sand dunes and the wooded hiking trails. Why not climb the three highest sand dunes as part of the 1.5-mile 3 Dune Challenge, which can be done any day of the year in any season? Even more natural, cultural and historical treasures lie beyond the beach, including charming downtowns, unique restaurants and locally-owned shops. Indiana Dunes Country is within driving distance, but feels like a world away. And be sure to extend your stay in a one-of-a-kind bed and breakfast or a familiar chain hotel. Your journey starts at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, where you’ll find helpful advice from our destination concierges, informative brochures, valuable coupons, a short film in our theater, an exhibit hall that’s fun for kids, a gift shop and more. Hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. daily Memorial Day to Labor Day, and 8:30 am.-4:30 p.m. the rest of the year.
