Who is Santa Claus and what does he really look like? Learn how the poem, “T’was the Night before Christmas” came to be written by Clement C. Moore almost 200 years ago. Take a closer look into the many illustrations of St. Nick and how illustrators brought Moore’s description to life.
Recreate your own edition of the first fully illustrated version of the poem as presenter, Judith Nixon, leads you in this hands-on activity following her presentation.

Judith M. Nixon received her B.S. degree in Education from Valparaiso University (Indiana) in 1967 and her M.S. in Library Science from the University of Iowa in 1974. She is a subject librarian for the College of Education at Purdue University. She is a long-term collector of illustrated editions of the poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” or “The Night Before Christmas.” Judy owns over 350 editions and the collection is still growing as each year brings new illustrated versions.
