Northeast Indiana is about to get a lot more colorful! Eleven new murals, spread across 11 different counties, will be unveiled over 11 days (September 8-18, 2020) as part of the “Make it Your Own Mural Fest.” The festival is unlike any festival you’ve ever attended.
The new “Make it Your Own Mural Fest” is currently shaping up ahead of its 10-day run Sept. 8 through 18, featuring 11 new murals in 11 different northeastern Indiana counties. The artistic output will also form the basis of nearly a dozen unique road trip opportunities, providing even more incentive to check out big-city attractions, charming Amish communities, tempting restaurants, picturesque lakes, and stunning natural scenery.
Throughout the event, murals created by a roster of regional, national and international artists will appear in time for a grand unveiling complemented with a week and a half of organized celebrations and festivities. And because the works are all outdoors and socially distanced, it’s easy and safe for viewers to observe them on foot or from their cars. After the big reveal, the murals will stay in place for visitors to enjoy for years to come.
Visitors to Fort Wayne are likely to have already seen the city’s beautiful collection of public art, sculptures, and murals on display in alleys, on downtown streets, and in city parks. The Make it Your Own Mural Fest takes these creative initiatives one step farther by involving other regional counties for exhibition on a grander scale.
A team effort between the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, Inc., the Mural Fest aims to encourage collaboration between counties, showcase the talents of the participating artists, and foster experiential interactions for residents and visitors to the area.
There is no charge to attend the Make it Your Own Mural Fest activities, and the murals are free to view anytime. For a map of locations and additional info, visit neindiana.com/mural-festival.
