I have been craving a good brunch, and wouldn't you know it, a delicious-looking cajun shrimp breakfast came across my news feed. Once I realized the dish was served just down the road from where we live in Evansville, I was elated. It led to a wonderful day, brunching and boutiquing in the Ohio River town of Newburgh!

The dish was from Nellie’s Restaurant in Newburgh. Nellie’s is a family-owned restaurant that serves breakfast from 6am-3pm and lunch from 11am-3pm daily.

The place was packed, but it seems we arrived at just the right time between the breakfast and lunch crowds. Our wait was only about 10 minutes, and we were waited on quickly once seated. I chose the Farmers Omelet that was filled with sausage, onion, hash browns and cheddar cheese topped with country gravy and a side of two fluffy pancakes.

My boyfriend, Erik went with the Ay Caramba Skillet, which came with chorizo, onions, tomatoes, jalapeno and poblano peppers, and mozzarella cheese mixed in crispy hash browns and topped with two scrambled eggs.

It was a lot of food, but with grit and determination, we were able to clean our plates.

Flutter in Downtown Newburgh

After eating, we felt the need to walk off some calories we had just consumed, so we headed to downtown to explore Historic Newburgh. We poked into a few boutiques and enjoyed the scenic river views.

The Refinery

In addition to the boutiques, there were a plethora of dining options ranging from Edgewater Grille with American cuisine to Cafe Arazu serving Middle Eastern fusion fare. And for those with a sweet tooth, you can stop at Cleo’s Bakery or Ben & Penny’s ice cream shop.

Just down the street is The Refinery, which is a gift shop, coffee shop, ice cream shop and living room all rolled into one. The atmosphere is chill and with caffeine and sweets to sustain me, I could definitely spend a good part of day here.

This charming town of just more than 3,000 people has a lot to offer and explore. To learn of festivals/events and other things to do in the surrounding area, Visit Warrick County.
