The New York Times recently released a list of The 10 Coolest Museums in the World, and one amazing museum in Indianapolis made the cut! The exciting new addition this cool museum will be adding in March 2018 will bring the fun to a whole new level!
The largest children’s museum in the world, it’s never been hard to find a reason to visit The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, and the addition of the new Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience opening March 17 now offers even more motivation.
Spanning a newly developed 7.5-acre spread, the $38.5 million expansion encourages kids of all ages (and adults) to get moving with 12 interactive outdoor experiences. Riley Children’s Hospital at Indiana University Health and a dozen different professional sports organizations have all contributed their input to the project to assure the content stays relevant, authentic and on point.
Basketball, football, baseball, soccer, golf, tennis, racing, hockey, track — visitors simply pick their favorite activity (or can feel free to try a new one) and hone their skills using provided equipment in themed replica fields, arenas and other environments. Inside, the World of Sport, the National Art Museum of Sport and the artifacts-rich History of Hoops exhibits offer opportunities to take a breather while learning about more about sports and physical fitness. Outdoor features stay open seasonally into the evenings, while the indoor exhibits are available to visit year-round.
Don’t forget to pay tribute to Old National Bank Sports Legends with a walk down the Avenue of Champions to admire a collection of life-sized commemorative bronze sculptures. Amid a collection of 16 iconic athletes and coaches, honorees include Larry Bird, Tamika Catchings, DaMarcus Beasley, Hank Aaron, Wilma Rudolph, A.J. Foyt, Wayne Gretzky and many others.
