Sharing weekend stories, procrastinating schoolwork and pigging out because we have nothing left in the pantry is something my friends and I look forward to every weekend. We live for Sunday brunch.
Last weekend, I visited some friends in West Lafayette and we partook in our Sunday ritual at Triple XXX Family Restaurant. Located just down the hill from Purdue’s campus, Triple XXX is no ordinary brunch joint.
When you walk into the restaurant you immediately get the hometown diner vibe, as you see nothing but counter space for visitors to enjoy meals among friends on one side and acquaintances on the other.
For 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Triple XXX serves anytime breakfast, signature burgers, and unforgettable French fries. My go-to menu item is the Nick Hardwick Special: two eggs, bacon, fried potatoes with grave, and a side of toast. For those of you who aren’t big on breakfast, The Bert Burger is a favorite among my friends.
If you’re a root beer fan, Triple XXX just got even better! The restaurant is most famous for serving great old time root beer simply called “Triple XXX Premium Root Beer.” According to the restaurant, “Triple XXX root beer tastes like root beer used to taste!”
One of the oldest diners in the state of Indiana, Triple XXX is a one-of-a-kind spot and a must experience for young adults and anyone visiting Purdue University or spending time in West Lafayette. Due to its popularity, be prepared for a short wait outside prior to dining. Also be sure to have cash on hand, as cards are not accepted. (There is an ATM, just in case!)
Prepare yourself for when you’re away from West Lafayette by grabbing a six-pack of Triple XXX root beer of your way out! You never know when a craving might hit.
