Indianapolis Museum of Art – 100 Acres

Located on the northwest side of the city is the Indianapolis Museum of Art. To be honest with you, I hadn’t been out to the museum recently … say within the last five years. I know, that’s pretty bad. But I put it on our Summer Bucket List because I wanted to visit the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park – otherwise known as 100 Acres.I went with a whole group of little girls on just what might have been the hottest day this summer. Brilliant, right? Despite the weather we had a wonderful time! The park is located on 100 acres just beyond the art museum’s main campus and includes woodlands, wetlands, meadows and a 35-acre lake. The girls loved running to each piece of “art” – most of which they could climb on which was a huge perk.Throughout the park are these yellow benches. All of them are different and it became quite a game to see who could spot the next one!We happened upon a beautiful area where they were watering the grounds and it made for a perfect rest stop to cool down and eat our picnic lunch! With the little ones, we knew we had a limited amount of time before breakdowns so while we ventured inside the museum, we limited our visit to the Star Studio where the kids had their own chance to create art … The visit was a perfect way to spend the day and reminded me that I need to go back (probably sans children) to take time walking around the FREE museum (did you catch that … FREE!). Check out the IMA’s website for more info on events, hours and special exhibits.
