  • National Black Forest Cake Day – March 28 2013

National Black Forest Cake Day - March 28 2013

By Amanda Neyron on March 28, 2013
Back

Did someone say cake? Yes, National Black Forest Cake Day! For those of you who need a reason to eat cake other than a special occasion or celebrations, well add today to your list. According to cake history the black forest cake originated in the late 16th century in the Black Forest Region, hence the name.  So, in honor of National Black Forest Cake Day I have compiled a list of bakeries in Indiana that will be featuring their take on this delicious recipe.

Central

For a place that is known for their Black Forest Cake, step into our own little Germany at the Heidelberg Haus in Indianapolis.  This quaint German Style bakery, café and shop offer many delicious bakery items so stop in to enjoy the atmosphere, culture and not to forget a slice of black forest cake and a little German culture.

East

Vanilla Bean Cookies and Cupcakes, you may have seen them on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, is honoring this special day with a chocolate cherry cupcake. This cupcake is topped with a swirled cherry and chocolate butter cream icing, sounds like a great way to celebrate today. Mmm!

North

Dutch Maid Bakery in Goshen is well known for their scrumptious Schwarzwälderkirschtorte, which is German for Black Forest Cherry Torte. This decadently rich, layered chocolate creation loaded with cream and cherries is worth every calorie. One bite and you know why it’s been a favorite for centuries, but this torte is best served fresh so call ahead for your order 574.533.1940.

Visit Arturo’s Baked Goods & More in Michigan City where they will be celebrating National Black Forest Cake Day with their delicious handmade style recipe for black forest cake.

Tonya’s Patisserie a delicious downtown Chesterton bakery and restaurant will make Black Forest Cake to celebrate this nationally recognized day. They’ll offer individual cake slices for patrons celebrating this nationally recognized day.

 West

Jane’s Gourmet Deli & Catering has been providing delicious treats to the Lafayette area for more than 20 years. Their black forest cake is made from scratch using imported cocoa, cherries steeped in kirsch, freshly whipped cream and chocolate shavings. This classically-styled cake has appeared on their catering repertoire dating back to the 1990’s.

South Central

Gramz Bakery and Café offer cupcake selection varieties. You can combine and create the flavors you like. If you want to customize your taste of black forest cake this is the place to go. Call ahead to place your order or just pop in to satisfy your sweet craving 812.378.9728.

Today you can enjoy many variations of this cake at bakeries around Indiana. So if you need a reason to satisfy your sweet tooth today’s your day!
