Dive In! The Water is Fine at Big Splash Adventure Indoor Water Park

By admin on January 28, 2013

Other states may loudly boast of their fabulous indoor water parks, but did you know that they aren’t alone? Indiana has her fair share of thrilling water amusements—and many are even indoors!

Treat the kids to a fun for the whole family type of escape, by heading to Big Splash Adventure Indoor Water Park and Resort in French Lick, Indiana. Sure, the weather outside may be frightful, but inside you can stay, play and eat all in one convenient location.

Big Adventure in a Small Town

As far as the rooms go, they are kid-friendly and much nicer than you would expect for a hotel with such an emphasis on family. Tastefully decorated and comfortable, the room was a pleasant surprise! I’d by lying if I said our boys didn’t snag the long body pillows and built forts first thing. But that was only until they noticed that we were settled in—and then the race to the water park began!

With 40,000 square feet of water park to play in, as cozy as the room may be, you most likely won’t be spending much time in it! Step inside the steamy, warm room (with one of the only retractable roofs in the world) and you can’t miss the three story Buccaneer Bay. Containing almost 50 interactive elements, a 1,000 gallon splash bucket and two slides, it’s almost guaranteed to delight every water-loving member of your group.

We really enjoyed Lost River, a lazy river. Truth be told, my favorite part of it was trying to pull Kid #1 into the various splash zones, like the buckets that tip over and cascade water or the soaking sprays that point at particular areas (without flipping over my inner tube) on this otherwise leisurely ride. Even our youngest liked this one!

Some of you may know I have a bit of a fear of heights so it took me until the second visit to brave the climb up the stairs to the big kid water slides. I’m so glad I joined in! They were really fun—and each slide was different enough to keep it interesting. Kid #1 recommends sliding on the red one during the night because you can only see light and dark which he believes makes it extra fun (if not a little spooky).

Fun for All Ages

Little ones aren’t left out, either. They’ve got plenty of water sprays and smaller drenching buckets as well as swings and even a short slide. Our youngest son could not get enough of that slide. It’s a toddler magnet, for sure!

You could easily stay at Big Splash Adventure Indoor Water Park and Resort for all your meals. They have the Boatyard Restaurant, Galley Grill, and Lee Wally’s Lounge. Breakfast includes a kid-friendly buffet every morning.

But if you feel cabin fever set in, you can easily hit the scenic town of French Lick and nearby Paoli, Indiana and explore a bit on your own! Don’t you just love options?

Parting Thoughts

Our two boys may be on the younger side, but there’s still enough here to entertain the older kids. Arrange a way to stay during the week like we did and you won’t have near the competition for the fun slides. There are already life jackets available in all sizes so that’s one less thing you need to pack!

Though frequently treated as an adults-only getaway, French Lick has plenty of family-oriented things to do! Get out there and explore. There’s all kinds of big adventure waiting right in your own backyard. Small towns: destinations, not drive-thrus.

Special thanks to Big Splash Adventure Indoor Water Park and Resort for hosting our stay. Opinions remain mine and mine alone (as always).
