One of my favorite holiday traditions is to pile the kids into the car after dinner and drive around admiring Christmas lights. Such a simple way to enjoy time together as a family away from the crowds and the rushing around.
If you’re looking to take your annual drive up a notch or two, then head to Santa Claus, Indiana. With a name like that, you know they’ve got a lock on extreme Christmas fun. And elaborate Christmas lights are no exception.
Santa Claus Land of Lights Tunnel
Point your sleigh toward the Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort, where you’ll find Santa Claus Land of Lights, a 1.2 mile Christmas light show that tells the story of Rudolph the Reindeer. It is open nightly, rain or shine, through New Year’s Eve (but closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). Cost is $15 per vehicle, but $4 off coupons are available at McDonald’s in Clinton, Spencer, Sullivan, Brazil, Linton, Vincennes, Ferdinand, Washington, Terre Haute, Loogootee, Boonville, Evansville, Jasper, Mt. Vernon, Newburgh, Petersburg, Princeton and Tell City.
This is the largest light display you’ll find at any North American campground, with some of the scenes measuring 30 feet high and 100 feet wide.
You could even make a weekend of it and stay in one of their Christmas cabins.
