Christmas Lights Display, Activities in Vevay, IN

By admin on November 29, 2012
Back

If you live in the southeastern part of Indiana, and you’re jonesing for some Christmas lights, swing through Paul Ogle Riverfront Park, in Vevay, Indiana (Switzerland County), right along the Ohio River. You’ll see thousands of lights that make up the drive-through route, which includes mangers, sleighs, deer, Christmas trees, cartoon characters, and I’m sure more than a little Santa.

Vehicles may drive through the park at no charge between now and December 31.Vevay Christmas Lights by Kendal Miller

The lights display is sponsored in part by Switzerland County Tourism, and was put together by an army of volunteers who purchased, donated, and borrowed lights and ornaments, to put together this bright and colorful display.

There are other Christmas and holiday activities happening around Switzerland County, starting on December 7, including a gingerbread house contest and wreath contest, whose entries will be on display at the Switzerland County Visitors Center. The houses will be on display through December 28, and the wreaths will hang until December 30th.

Kids can get their pictures taken with Santa, and families can do “Make and Take Crafts” at the Visitors Center from 1:00 – 4:00 pm on December 8/9 and 15/16.

There will also be a County Christmas at two historic Switzerland County homes on Saturday, December 8 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Visitors can experience a Country Christmas at the 1820’s Venoge home at 111 State Road 129, and you can see what the early modern Christmas celebrations were like at the 1860s Thiebaud Farmstead at 5147 E. State Road 46. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

For more information, visit the Switzerland County tourism website.
