Celebrate the Holidays in Kokomo

By Visit Indiana on November 28, 2012
Back

Visit Kokomo for great tours and family-friendly events that will make your holiday season merry and bright!  From visits with Santa and live reindeer to spectacular light displays and performances, spend the holidays in Kokomo!

Light Up Your Holiday in Downtown Kokomo

If you have kids, make plans to attend Light Up Your Holiday on Saturday, December 1st.  Downtown Kokomo will be bustling with holiday cheer from 4-7 pm with the arrival of Santa on the train, live reindeer, Christmas stories & crafts, letters to Santa, holiday treats, downtown lights & much more.  Admission is free.  Downtown art galleries and boutiques will also be open for holiday shopping.  My son especially enjoyed the live reindeer last year!

If you enjoy theater and music, here are a few more ways to spend the holiday season!  Kokomo Civic Theatre will present the heart-warming musical The Gifts of the Magi on November 30 – December 2 at IU Kokomo Havens Auditorium.  Also, Curtain Call Children’s Theatre will present Babes in Toyland at Central Middle School on November 30 – December 2.  Don’t miss the IU Kokomo Crescendos in (The Most Interesting Christmas Program Around): “Naughty & Nice” on December 8th at IU Kokomo Havens Auditorium at 7pm.  For more concerts and performances in the Kokomo area, visit our website.

Take a step back in time and enjoy A Country Christmas at Easy Acre Farm. Visit Santa, see his sleigh, and meet live reindeer from 1-4 pm on December 15-16 & 22-23.  Easy Acre Farm has several fun family-friendly events throughout the year and boasts their farm attraction as agri-tainment!  This is a great opportunity to visit a local farm and learn about history and old-fashioned values during the holiday season.

Tour the Seiberling Mansion during Christmas at the Seiberling

Christmas at the Seiberling is an annual holiday tradition in Kokomo held at the Seiberling Mansion.  Tours will continue throughout the season Tuesday-Sunday from 1-4 pm through December 30th (closed December 24-25.)  Beautifully decorated both inside and out, don’t miss this chance to experience the Seiberling Mansion in its full holiday splendor.  This is also a great tour idea for groups of all sizes or a women’s holiday outing!  The Seiberling Mansin will also host the Holiday Spirits Wine & Beer Tasting on December 7 from 6-8pm.

Enjoy a drive or stroll through several spectacular light displays in the Kokomo area.  These include We Care Park (Kokomo’s largest holiday light display with over 1,000,000 lights and dozens of animated displays), Highland Park, and Pioneer Village at the Howard County Fairgrounds.  All displays are open nightly through Christmas.

Finally, if you need ideas of things for your family to do after Christmas, the Kokomo Automotive Museum will offer FREE admission on December 27 & 28 from 10am-4pm.  With over 100 antique and classic cars, special galleries and new exhibits, plan a visit to the museum to shake those winter blues.

The celebration will continue in Downtown Kokomo with the New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 31st from 10:30pm-Midnight.  Admission is free, and the evening will be full of music, fireworks, fun activities & and the annual Ball Drop on the Courthouse Square.

In between holiday baking, shopping, decorating, and gift wrapping, I hope you take some time to enjoy this holiday season with your family and friends!  For more information on holiday events, tours, shopping & dining in Kokomo, visit our website or download the Visit Kokomo Mobile App.  Happy Holidays!
