Indiana Fever WNBA Championship Celebration & Parade, Tuesday, October 23

By admin on October 22, 2012
Back

The Indiana Fever and the City of Indianapolis will celebrate the Fever’s first WNBA championship at 12 noon, Tuesday, October 23, in downtown Indianapolis.

The event kicks off with a parade that starts at Monument Circle at 12 noon. It heads south on Meridian Street three blocks, heads left (east) on Georgia Street, and then straight through to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse and center stage.

Fever players will ride a celebratory float, and will be escorted by fire and police vehicles, as well as mounted police and a marching band. The parade will be led by employees of Pacers Sports & Entertainment.

Once on center stage, the WNBA championship trophy will be presented, and we’ll get to hear remarks from COO/GM Kelly Krauskopf, head coach Lin Dunn, and players Tamika Catchings and Katie Douglas.

The Fever absolutely dominated the Minnesota Lynx in the best-of-5 series, winning game 1 in Minnesota, and game 3 and 4 at home in Indianapolis.

My family and I have been fans of the Fever for many years, and have been very proud and excited to watch the Fever take the WNBA championship. Even after two serious injuries to Douglas (sprained ankle) and Jeanette Pohlen (torn ACL), the Fever managed to step up and fill the holes left by these players. Their success is well-earned and long-awaited.

My family and I are going to be at the parade, cheering on the first basketball championship this city has seen since the Pacers’ last ABA championship in 1973. And after an exciting season of women’s basketball, we’re going to have to pay attention to this year’s Indiana Pacers team to see if they can do the same thing.
