Why I Love Indianapolis: A Butler Blogger Introduction

My name is Ryan Simpson and I am a senior at Butler University. I have been lucky enough to spend the past three years in Indianapolis, the best city in the Midwest. Throughout the semester, I will be sharing my experiences at various venues and events throughout not only Indianapolis, but also the great state of Indiana.

Before I discuss all there is to experience in Indiana, I want to give a brief background about myself. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and have always been very active and had an interest in the outdoors. I came to Butler to study Integrated Communications major Butler and I would like to pursue a career in Public Relations or Marketing. During my time at Butler I have been involved with PRSSA, Blue Key Honor Fraternity, Best Buddies, Alternative Spring Break and a social fraternity. Upon graduation I would love to acquire a job in Indianapolis. There are many reasons I love Indianapolis, but here are a few.

The canal is one of my favorite spots in Indianapolis

 1. Size

I love that Indianapolis is a large city but is still easily accessible. Everything downtown is within walking distance and there is plenty for college students and young professionals to do.

 2. Location

Indianapolis is located directly in the center of Indiana. It is a short drive away from other cities such as Chicago, Cincinnati and Louisville.

 3. Atmosphere

The term Hoosier Hospitality really rings true when I think of Indianapolis. Everyone that I have met is very friendly and will go out of their way to be accommodating.

I attended the first ever Big Ten Championship game. The games was played in Lucas Oil Stadium.

 4. Sports Tradition

Indianapolis is a world-class sports city. In addition to a profession football and basketball team, the city boasts excellent college sports, the NCAA Headquarters, and a minor league baseball team. In the past few years the city has hosted events such as the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, and the Big Ten Football and Basketball Championships.

5. Neighborhoods

There are many places in Indianapolis that are worth exploring. Areas such as Broad Ripple, Fountain Square, and Downtown are all great places to spend time.

As the weeks go by, I will continue to explore the Indianapolis area and Indiana as a whole. I will blog about my various experiences and discover the hidden treasures of the state.
