Grammy Winners Seven Nations to Headline Scottish Highland Games and Festival

As a big fan of all things Scottish, I’m looking forward to the third annual Scottish Highland Games and Festival on Saturday, October 13th. The event goes from 9 am to 9 pm, and will be held at German Park, 8600 S. Meridian St., just a little north of Johnson County and County Line Road.

Just like any other Scottish festival, you’ll see large burly men in kilts who you would never want to make jokes about, throwing heavy objects. There are eight Celtic bands playing live music on two stages. There’s Scottish food and drink, whisky tastings (as compared to “whiskey” tastings), bagpipe bands, a youth games area, a Scottish market, and clan tents.

Yeah, you don’t want to make kilt jokes to this guy.

Speaking of clan tents, I’m still researching the family genealogy, but I’m fairly certain my mom’s dad’s side of the family has some Scottish roots, so I’ll be on the lookout for anyone from the Campbell Clan.

But most exciting of all, the Grammy Award-winning Celtic band, Seven Nations, will headline the night.

Bands at the Festival will include traditional Scottish ballads to Celtic Rock, and in addition to Seven Nations, will include the Kells Band, Highland Reign, Hogeye Navvy, Minstrel Teig, Celtic Rain, Drunk and Sailor, and Ken McGee.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children, if you buy them in advance online. Otherwise, they’re $15/$8 at gate. Kids under 6 are free, as are active duty military free with ID.
