If you’re a fan of locally grown food, you’ll want to check out the third annual Dig IN, A Taste of Indiana, which showcases our state’s top chefs, growers, producers, brewers, and wineries on August 26th at White River State Park.
You’ll get two-ounce samples of the dishes that over 30 chefs and food professionals have prepared using only ingredients grown in Indiana. Best of all, these will be prepared on site, so you’ll get the freshest taste possible.
According to the information I received, visitors will be treated to Hoosier delicacies like Indiana tomatoes, Capriole goat cheese, bison, yellow perch, duck, blueberries, jalapeños, and sweet corn. Some things we’re known for, others that will surprise you to find are available here locally.
The same is true for the wine and beer you can get during the festival, as well as local soft drinks and water.
And because this isn’t all about stuffing your face (but it would be more than enough for me if that’s all we did), there will be local bands playing, exhibits about urban garden, educational panel discussions and speakers, and question-and-answer sessions with the chefs and other food experts.
You can get tickets on the Dig IN website, which includes all tastes and samples. There are also 1,000 VIP tickets that will get you in an hour earlier, with a chance to speak more easily to the chefs and other participants.
The event will be at the White River State Park Celebration Plaza, 801 W. Washington St., Indianapolis (near the Indianapolis Zoo), from 12 noon to 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 26.
Tickets are $30 in July; $40 in August and at the gate; $10 for children 5 to 10 years old; children under 5 free. The VIP tickets are $60.
