Don’t Wait Until July 4 for Fireworks

When I was grocery shopping this week, I noticed a few little boys staring longingly at a display of fireworks (what is it with boys and explosives?). I thought to myself that they’re going to have a long wait until July 4, still more than a month away.

And then I realized, why wait until the 4th of July to indulge in the fun of fireworks? So here’s a few events where you can get your fireworks fix before the big “bang” day.

Parkview Field, home of the Fort Wayne TinCaps

What better way to cap off a night at the ballpark than with fireworks?

Indianapolis Indians games: Fireworks follow every Friday night homegame throughout the summer. (Upcoming Friday homegames include June 1, June 22, and June 29).

Fort Wayne TinCaps games: There are 27 firework shows scheduled for the 2012 season. (Upcoming: June 1, June 13, June 14, June 22, June 23, June 25)

Gary SouthShore RailCats games: The RailCats also offer Fireworks Friday shows. (Upcoming: June 8, June 22)

South Bend Silver Hawks games: Fireworks light up the South Bend sky on Fridays after home games. (Upcoming: June 8, June 15, June 29)

‘Tis the season for summer street fairs and celebrations of all kinds. Many include fireworks!

Parker City Homecoming Fair: This festival, just east of Muncie, will include a city-wide rummage sale and tractor pulls. Fireworks scheduled for Wednesday, June 6 at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Dyer Summerfest: Fireworks will cap off a multi-day fun festival in Pheasant Hills Park in northwest Indiana. Fireworks are set for Sunday, June 10 at 9 p.m.

Charlestown Founder’s Day: This event at Greenway Park in southern Indiana includes live music, contests, a 5K and more. The fireworks will be June 23 at 10 p.m.

While our country’s independence began on July 4, no need to wait to celebrate such a wonderful occasion!

Pittsboro Town Celebration: This community in Hendricks County (west of Indianapolis) will begin the holiday celebrations early, with a parade, food and games on June 23. Fireworks are scheduled for 10 p.m. at Scamahorn Park.

Fishers Freedom Festival: This kid-focused event runs the last weekend in June and concludes with fireworks. The fireworks will be June 24 at 9:50 p.m. at Roy G. Holland Memorial Park.

Many other firework shows are scheduled beginning Friday, June 29 in advance of the holiday week. So get ready to cast your gaze toward the stars for some explosive fun this summer!

Many thanks to for providing a lot of great information about these events. If I missed any, feel free to comment with details!
