Holiday World opens for the 2012 season May 5

To my family, it’s just not summertime without a trip to Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana. But there’s no need to wait for summer to make your visit. Holiday World opens for the 2012 season on May 5. Click here for a daily calendar of hours.

Each of my kids has a favorite ride. The oldest raves about The Raven. The middle one loves The Liberty Launch. Even my little guy is a coaster fanatic — The Voyage is his ride of choice. (I prefer the considerably more tame Gobbler Getaway.)

This year, Holiday World is introducing several new attractions and offerings to park visitors.

1. The Mammoth Water Coaster — Measuring 1/3 of a mile, the Mammoth is the longest water coaster in the world.

2. Bahari River Cabanas — If you’re looking for a home base in Splashin’ Safari, rent a cabana for the day.  Each cabana has a ceiling fan and locking cabinet, a fridge stocked with bottled water, a table and four chairs, two chaise lounges and free WIFI.

3. HoliCash — Pre-load a HoliCash wristband with money in the morning and avoid the need to carry a wallet or purse with you throughout the park. (HoliCash was piloted in 2011.)

Of course, free visitors will still enjoy free soft drinks and free sunscreen at the park, too.

So, when do you plan to make your visit to Holiday World?
