The 8th annual Lore of the Laughery, a living history event that portrays life and events from 1750 to 1812, will be held on May 5th and 6th, in Friendship, Indiana. The event, which focuses particularly on the early history of the area, including a battle during the Revolutionary War, will showcase different crafts, foods, and lifestyle of the chosen time period and part of the country.
Lore of the Laughery’s public hours are 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. EDT Saturday and 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. EDT Sunday. The township of Friendship, Indiana is in Ripley County (Southeastern Indiana), on SR 62.
They also have tipis on display for the public to visit.
The event, which is one of the biggest in the area, will feature:
military recreators
period artisans, craftspeople, and entertainers
civilian encampments
period livestock demonstrations
Demonstrations of blacksmithing, spring pole lathe, gunsmithing, leatherworking, silversmithing, woodworking, spinning, braintanning of leather, weaving, bobbin lacemaking, and powderhorn making
the Voyageur Ancient Fife & Drum Corps, whose members are all under the age of 18
Travelers Dream, a French Canadian band
Jim’s Red Pants, a hammered dulcimer and fiddle group
Discount tickets may be ordered in advance, $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children 4-12 by calling (800) 745.1493, or by visiting the Ripley County Tourism Bureau, or calling them at (888) 747-5394, or visiting their website. Tickets are good for one day, either day, and there are no refunds or will call facilities. Tickets at the door are $6 for adults and $3 for children, ages 4-12.
