Southern Indiana’s Wine Trail Kicks Off “March Gladness 2012”

The Indiana Uplands Wine Trail in Southern Indiana is kicking off its sixth annual March Gladness event, with a theme “Around the World.” Each winery along the trail will feature delicious foods from a specific country and offer wines to match.

The event will be held March 10 11 and 17 18, and you can travel the wine trail VIP style, complete with wine tastings, gourmet hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and special vintage wine. The trail will include stops at its 9 member wineries, Huber, Best, Turtle Run, Winzerwald, French Lick, Carousel, Oliver, Butler and Brown County.

Just looking at the menu, and I know I want to go. There are Brazilian empanadas at Carousel Winery, Spanish chorizo (sausage) and manchego cheese at the French Lick Winery, and the only thing to pry me away from chorizo and cheese: Greek spanakopita at the Brown County Winery. I don’t know if I’d need a limo or a flatbed truck to get around this trail

You can get your tickets at any of the trail wineries, or go online to the March Gladness ticket portal, courtesy of Tickets are $35, and will let you visit each of the wineries one time over the four day event. So you don’t even have to visit them all in a single day or a single weekend. Visit half one weekend and half on the other.

And if you’re a member of the trail’s Passport program, you can receive two free buffet party plates with the trail logo once you have completed the trail with your passport. Sadly, the party plate will not be laden with chorizo and cheese or spanakopita, but go ahead and do it anyway.

You will also be entered into the grand prize drawings at the Vintage Indiana Festival in downtown Indianapolis on June 4.
