If you’re looking for a great ethnic restaurant in Indianapolis, look no further than Bosphorus Istanbul Cafe, located about a mile southeast of downtown Indy in the city’s Fountain Square neighborhood. While the outside of the building is a bit unassuming, as soon as you step inside, you’ll know you’ve entered a traditional Turkish cafe. Owner Orhan Demirtas immigrated to the U.S. in August, 2002 and has been working at the restaurant ever since.
One of the signature items at Bosphorus is the Falafel Sandwich. While not on the menu, they’ll gladly put one together if you ask. The falafel sandwich contains diced fried falafel, fresh lettuce, tomato and a nice tahini sauce all wrapped in a Turkish pita. Other great menu items are the delicious homemade hummus, beef and lamb kebabs and for desert, don’t forget to try the homemade baklava for dessert.
