Conner Prairie Country Fair Kicks Off September 17 & 18

By admin on September 12, 2011
Back

Conner Prairie is hosting its annual Country Fair on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18. If you want to see what kinds of foods we ate, games we played, and fun we had in the 1860s, this is your chance.Mother and toddler daughter in dresses women and children would have worn in the 1860s.

Whether you want to visit the Tent of Wonders and see the Bearded Lady, participate in a pie eating contest or tug-o’-war, take a hayride, and even play historic base ball (note the two words, not one; also, you don’t get to use a glove).

The Country Fair also has some heirloom foods — apples and tomatoes we would have eaten 150 years ago — and traditional fair foods like pork tenderloin (Indiana’s official state sandwich) and sweet potato pie (Indiana’s official state pie made from a tuber — not really), and a chance to sample those apples and tomatoes.

Ongoing events including pottery making, the Animal Encounters barn, build an Egg-a-Pult, and even help with farm chores.

Other events include kids base ball from 11:30 – 12:30, adults base ball from 1:30 – 2:30, a pie eating contest at 1:30, and tomahawk throwing contest at 4:00, plus Nickelodeon’s Jimmy Neutron will be on-hand to meet kids at the top of each hour. These times are the for both days, but there is a whole lot more they’ll be doing than what I’ve listed here. You can see a full schedule of events on the Conner Prairie website.

Sunday, September 18, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
