Concerts and Family-Friendly Events Labor Day Weekend in Hamilton County

By Visit Indiana on August 31, 2011
Back

Labor Day weekend is one of those weekends when you feel like you should be doing something besides watching the CSI marathon or working on your “honey-do” list. After all, it is the unofficial last weekend of the summer and wasting such a precious three-day weekend is just not an option.

You can start your holiday weekend in downtown Noblesville, Indiana at First Friday, 5:30 to 8 PM Shop on the Historic Square or for just $5 per person, take a tour to see what’s hidden above and inside some of Noblesville’s historic buildings. Load up your chairs for the evening too, so you can enjoy the free Jazz on the Square concert at 7 p.m., featuring The Tides.

Climb aboard the Pizza PLUS Express or the Great Towns Train.

If a night out at the movies sounds like fun, you can take in two free movies under the stars at Saxony in Fishers, Indiana. This Friday, pack up your blankets, chairs and goodies and enjoy Megamind (PG) and Inception (PG-13). Of course, if Labor Day weekend means you need to take a final “trip” with the family, climb aboard the Pizza PLUS Express or the Great Towns Train.

This is the last weekend for Marsh Symphony on the Prairie. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will not be performing, but two great acts are closing out this year’s series. Flash Cadillac will play popular favorites from the Golden Age of Rock ‘n’ Roll on Thursday and Friday night. On Saturday and Sunday evening, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (BBVD) will bring a blend of jazz, swing, Dixieland and Big Band music back to the Conner Prairie Amphitheater. Bonus: fireworks after both BBVD performances! And one other Saturday night concert option: Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Hoosier Racing Park and Casino.

A day at Conner Prairie Interactive History Park is always a full-day of adventure especially with the opening of their new 1863: Civil War Journey experience. This is also opening weekend for their Apple Store, so you can munch on hand-dipped caramel apples, slurp up an apple slushie or take home some apple jams and jellies.

That’s just a partial list of things you can do this weekend in Hamilton County, Indiana. Check our 8 Great Towns calendar  for more ideas. Have a fun, safe holiday weekend – and don’t watch too many episodes of CSI!
