Indiana’s Nicest Day, Penrod Arts Fair, September 10, 2011

I had a chance to visit the Penrod Arts Fair back in 2008 with my youngest daughter, an aspiring artist, and we were just overwhelmed by the art, the music, and the general atmosphere of friendliness and awesomeness. There were more art booths than I had ever seen in a single place, and it seemed like the entire city was there to look, study, and listen.

Listen to bands like Duke Tumatoe, an Indianapolis blues favorite. In fact, Duke will be back at the Penrod this year, performing in the WFYI Blues Tent from 12:20 – 1:50.

And the Blues tent is only one of five music and entertainment venues. There’s also a rock stage, dance stage, jazz stage, and symphony stage where you can see the likes of Cynthia Lane (rock), Dance Kaleidoscope (dance), Steve Allee & Friends (jazz), and the Indianapolis Men’s and Women’s Choruses.

But don’t forget the food. King David’s Dogs will be there, as will Bazbeaux Pizza, Hubbard & Cravens Coffee, and the Blue Lagoon. In fact, by my count, 24 of Indy’s favorite restaurants and eateries will be spread throughout three different tents.

There’s also stuff for the kids to do, in the Children’s Area, as well as their own entertainment stage.

So, if you come out to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, you can fill the day with great music, delicious food, and moving art. Having been there before, I can tell you it truly is Indiana’s Nicest Day.

Tickets are $12 in advance, or $17 at the gate. You can pick up tickets at any Marsh Supermarket, Hubbard & Cravens, Main Street Market, or at the Indianapolis Museum of Art itself.
