Travis Pastrana will be debuting in his first NASCAR Nationwide series race at Lucas Oil Raceway during this year’s Kroger SpeedFest on July 30th at 7:30pm. You may know him better from his MTV show, Nitro Circus or the countless medals that he has won as a Motorcross rider. He has proven himself as an adrenaline junky and a true competitor on anything with wheels.
This past Thursday I was given the opportunity to see him test the track at Lucas Oil Raceway. After taking several laps and getting a feel for the oval, Pastrana hopped out of the car full of enthusiasm and energy. This could be considered a feat all its own since it was 100 degrees outside. Compared to the sports that he has taken part in NASCAR can be considered a little more tame. When asked about this Pastrana said, ‘A lot of people say it is pretty tame getting in to NASCAR coming from the sports that I’ve done with action sports and even monster trucks, Nitro Circus, jumping out of planes without parachutes and stuff but honestly NASCAR is the most competitive sport in America probably in the world as far as anything with a motor in it. For me it is all about competition. It is all about seeing how far we can push it. How fast we can go. And there is no better place to do it other than NASCAR.’
Along with Pastrana taking on the Kroger 200 Nationwide Series, this race is also gaining a lot of attention as it is the 30th running and it will not return to Lucas Oil Raceway on its traditional date for 2012.
Fans of the nationwide series have always regarded the Kroger 200 as one of the best races on the circuit. With the additional excitement surrounding this event and the changes moving forward this is going to be a race you won’t want to miss. I know I won’t.
Kroger SpeedFest is three days of great racing and kicks off on Thursday, July 28th with the Thursday Night Triple Header, USAC Silver Crown and Midget Series along with the ARCA Series. It continues with the AAA Insurance 200 Camping World Truck Series race on Friday, July 29th. The weekend is then rounded out with the 30th annual Kroger 200 benefiting Riley Hospital for Children on Friday, July 30th. Tickets can be purchased at NHRAtix.com or at the Lucas Oil Raceway ticket office.
