If you’re anything like me, each year Mother’s Day rolls around and I scramble to pick up some fresh flowers and a card at the grocery store. Now that I’m a mother myself, I realize that this is not the most thoughtful way to show my mom how much she means to me and to thank her for all she’s done.
Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso
This year there’s a great opportunity to not only show mom you put some thought into her gift, but also share an experience that you’ll both enjoy. There’s a unique performance called Listen To Your Mother scheduled for May 7 in Valparaiso’s historic Memorial Opera House. Listen To Your Mother is a nation-wide production, but features locally-cast writers and actors that do live readings about their thoughts, experiences and emotions related to motherhood and parenting.
The northwest Indiana show is being led by Stephanie Precourt, a mother, writer and blogger living in this area of the state. Several other northwest Indiana residents (including some dads!) have been cast in the show.
So take mom out for a night on the town, and then ask her to share her stories and memories. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, but they are going fast. And no one wants to disappoint mom by not planning ahead, right? Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. (Central time). The Memorial Opera House is located 104 Indiana Avenue in downtown Valparaiso.
