Get Happy at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra

Where can you mingle, drink, eat and listen to world-class musicians after work?

Easy. Happy Hour at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Every few months the ISO hosts a Thursday evening Happy Hour, and you’re in luck because the next one is March 17. I am definitely planning to attend and I cannot wait for my first Happy Hour at the Symphony experience!

I suggest parking in the Circle Centre Mall parking garage, where the cost is only $1.50 for up to three hours. You can then walk the few blocks to the circle where Hilbert Circle Theatre awaits in all its glory. Originally opened in 1916 as a movie theater and renovated in the 1980s, Hilbert holds all the charm of a grand early twentieth century theater yet has all the comforts of a modern venue. I absolutely love this building with its sophisticated atmosphere and luxurious décor.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. in the lounge area of the theater lobby, where five local restaurants serve unlimited food and cocktails. Mingle and chat with professionals from across the city while enjoying the classic flavors of Indianapolis. It’s a great way to unwind after a long day of work and to prepare for the weekend ahead. Tickets are just $20 and include food, drinks and a performance.

At 6:30 p.m., you’ll find a seat in the theater where Time for Three, the ISO’s resident ensemble, will perform a riveting one-hour concert. Two violinists and one double bassist comprise this group that considers itself the “classically-trained garage band.” Their music is fun and funky and defies musical categories. It’s a very young, hip version of classical music. These three young guys go on stage and have a great time playing music they’re passionate about and that they have arranged, composed and improvised themselves. I’ve had the pleasure of watching up close as Zach De Pue, a Time for Three violinist and an ISO concertmaster plays and his enthusiasm for music is evident in every note he coaxes from his violin. This video will tell you more about Time for Three and let you listen to some of their riveting music.

If you’re looking for more events that mix culture, food and networking, check out Forte, the ISO’s young professionals group. Members receive half off Happy Hour tickets and get to participate in many other exciting ISO events throughout the year.

Food, drinks and entertainment for just $20? See you at the Symphony!

To order Happy Hour tickets, call the ISO Box Office at 317.639.4300.
