Skyline Club is the Height of Fine Dining

Devour DowntownThis post was written by a Butler University student about their experience at one of 40+ restaurants involved in Devour Downtown – a prix-fixe way to experience some of Indianapolis’ best downtown restaurants twice a year. Check out all the posts written about Devour Downtown on the Indiana Insider Blog

Adorn yourself in your nicest clothes,  grab your date and drive downtown to Skyline Club for romantic ambiance, gourmet food and a view that will take your breath away.

That’s exactly what my husband and I did during Devour Downtown this week and we were thrilled with every aspect of our evening. We parked along New York Street in the free parking leading up to the One America Building, which was convenient because you have to enter through the building’s New York Street entrance in the evening. Once inside we took the elevator up, up, up to the 36th floor, our excitement building the entire way! Typically only club members can dine at Skyline Club, but during Devour Downtown the club invites all guests to enjoy an amazing $30 three-course meal.

When we finally made it to the top and entered the restaurant, we were blown away. The atmosphere was upscale and romantic with dim lighting and elaborate chandeliers. The service was impeccable from the moment we arrived with an attendant checking our coats and the host helping me into my seat.

Steak DianeFeeling adventurous, I chose the most unusual appetizer on the menu, bypassing the Pan Fried Crab Cake and Poached Pear Salad and opting instead for the Celery Root Bisque. I normally don’t think much of celery but this bisque showed me a depth of flavor I never knew celery had. It was creamy and delicious–a pleasant surprise! I asked for a more traditional entree, Steak Diane with Boursin Mashed Potatoes and a Dijon-Brandy Sauce, and oh my goodness, it was heavenly. The steak was a juicy, tender medium rare and was everything steak should be. My date had Sweet Chili Glazed Salmon in a Miso Sauce, which was also fantastic with a little bit of a kick. Our waiter was attentive the entire time, keeping our glasses filled and bringing our dishes promptly, though he wasn’t particularly engaging.

And finally, dessert! The Chocolate Silk and Cherry Cheesecake Cup combo allowed us to sample two unbelievableChocolate Silk and Cherry Cheesecake Cup desserts on one plate. Eat the cheesecake slowly as it is probably the richest dessert you’ve ever tasted. The smooth, creamy Chocolate Silk was ideal for chocolate lovers–like me! Between the three-course meal and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon (not included in the $30 price), we were completely satisfied.

What makes Skyline Club truly special is the magnificent view of Indianapolis from the 36th floor. If you’re not lucky enough to get a table by the window, be sure to walk over between courses. The view is gorgeous from anywhere in the restaurant but there’s nothing like looking over the edge. Monument Circle and the rest of downtown were lit up against the night sky, creating an extraordinary moment as we peered down at the beauty that is Indianapolis.

Devour Downton menus will be available through Feb. 5, so surprise your sweetie with an early Valentine’s Day dinner next weekend. Skyline Club delivers on romance, flavor and atmosphere 100 percent and at a great value during Devour Downtown.
