My family was in town a few weeks ago for the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, which my mother ran (I’m very proud). I’ve brought my family to stay in many Indianapolis hotels over the span of my college career. Everything from the Conrad to the Doubletree Inn. Knowing it would be a busy weekend, I used one of my work contacts to hook me up with a room at the Omni Severin Hotel. I had never been or stayed there and wanted to use the opportunity to check it out for myself.
When the day finally came for me to meet my family after work, I easily parked across the street at Union Station, strolled right into the very inviting lobby, and made my way up to the 18th floor and to my delight, my parents and brother were lounging comfortably in their plush, corner room plaza suite. Accommodations features included a quite roomy space of 378 square feet. There were windows on three sides, making the room very bright and beautiful with great views of Union Station and the Pan Am Plaza. A definite A for visual appeal.
During the entire weekend stay, the hotel was constantly bustling with activity. That’s what I really love to see. The Severin Bar located just off the lobby was constantly packed with all kinds of people socializing, and a stunning wedding even took place in the ballroom Saturday afternoon.
My only critiques were the outdated technology. After being on the phone with technical support for ten minutes, the man on the other line simply told us he couldn’t figure out why we weren’t getting internet connection and he was sorry. The two television sets in the guest room were also old, boxy and on the small side.
Overall, I give the Omni an A-. The great location (a skywalk connects the hotel to Circle Centre Mall and the Indiana Convention Center), fun atmosphere and beautiful, spacious room made for a great weekend stay overall.
