If you’re anything like me, your idea of a great Saturday night involves some live music and a cold beer. Well I have good news for you, if you’re in Bloomington, great nights come more than once a week. With 14 different shows in December, it’s like Christmas all month at The Bluebird!
My first Bluebird experience involved a great group of high school friends and a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band loud enough to be heard around the block. Now I’m not going to lie, it wouldn’t have been my first choice on music but I can appreciate a little “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Simple Man” every now and then. It was a Saturday night but the lines were never too long and there was always a place to take a break from the music.
With multiple bars (it is an over 21 venue) and a lot of square footage, you can do whatever you want, whether that be taking advantage of the drink specials or getting your groove on! Located right off Kirkwood Avenue, it definitely brings in a college crowd but has plenty of locals. Don’t worry about feeling out of place, it’s about as comfortable and casual as it gets!
Not into the smoky bar thing? Luckily all Bloomington restaurants and bars are smoke-free! Speaking of restaurants, I would definitely suggest arriving early for dinner at Scotty’s Brewhouse, located just down the street.
With music genres from rock to hip hop, The Bluebird is a venue you should definitely check out next time you’re in town. Upcoming shows include Sister Hazel and Indiana’s own Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band.
