Often when someone refers to art, my mind goes to paintings on canvas, pen and ink drawings, clay sculptures or even abstract wood pieces. But Brown County, Indiana textile artist and juried Indiana Artisan Daren Pitts Redman helps people like me to expand their definition of art.
Redman’s vibrant and beautiful fabric showpieces also remind us that fabrics are for more than clothing and upholstery. Using a Japanese dyeing technique known as Shibori, she finds much of her inspiration in the hills of her Brown County home.

Her colorfully patterned and dyed cottons, silks and quilts have been displayed at the Indiana State Museum; Hotel Indigo in Columbus, Indiana; and the Christian Theological Society, as well as other venues. Redman also offers workshops and lectures on her craft.
