This weekend was a perfect time to spend a morning relaxing along downtown Indy’s Canal Walk. The warm temps had me basking in the sun while wearing shorts and a t-shirt, not something that’s always possible in October. And the water was glistening pink, dyed recently in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While most of the main attractions are clustered around the south end of the canal, my favorite way to spend time here has always been to head north.
From New York Street north to 10th Street, you’ll find fountains, bridges, balconies overlooking the water, and most importantly, a little serenity in the midst of the city. My family loves to walk along the canal, but you can also be serenaded in an authentic Venetian gondola. It’s also a great place to jog or bike.
Our last stop before heading home is typically Creation Cafe, located inside Buggs Temple. Buggs Temple is a destination itself, one of the city’s oldest church buildings which has been completely restored. On a beautiful day, there’s nothing better than claiming one of the cafe’s outdoor tables overlooking the water, with the downtown skyline as your backdrop. Creation Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and has a full coffee shop.
