This past week, Butler’s Student Government Association offered the opportunity to go to dinner at Zing. I had heard quite a lot of buzz about this small plate dinner experience and want to see for myself what it was all about. Right off the bat, I was impressed by the restaurant’s decor. Located right outside downtown along Indianapolis’ Central Canal, the view fit right in with its sleek, modern feel.
After our group was seated and received our menus, the waiter explained what exactly a small plate experience was. The menu was set up into sections of small plates of food that is meant to be shared among a group. This allows you to have a different dinning experience. By ordering different small plates that come out in intervals, it lets your group try new things and share. Typically, a person orders two to three small plates. The opportunity to order multiple plates enabled me to try things I would have never tried if I had to pick one dish. The small plate experience took me out of my food “comfort zone”.
Zing is a great place for groups or a date. By sharing food, it makes the meal more social. “What did you get?” and “Can I try?” will be the most spoken words while enjoying your meal. Among my group of friends, we were able to try almost everything on the menu that night and I have to say everything was great. With so many different flavors and wowing plate presentations, it is almost hard to say what was my favorite. But if I really had to choose, I would have to say the Mahi Mahi Tacos are a must!
