Free art fair appeals to all ages and stages

My day job is located just east of Indianapolis in an area known as Fountain Square. It’s one of six cultural districts identified and promoted by the city. Since I began working there five years ago, Fountain Square has continued to add to its rich offerings of restaurants, shops, and artistic venues. Next weekend, visitors can get a taste of it all at the 4th Annual Fountain Square Art Fair.

The Fountain Square Art Fair will take place on Saturday, September 18 from 10am to 6pm.  Admission is free. Local restaurants, including newcomers Pure Eatery, Red Lion Grog House and Square Rootz Deli, will be open. Vendors will display (and of course sell!) everything from fine arts to hand-crafted items. An entertainment stage will showcase independent performers. There will even be an art-area set up for kids to exercise their own creativity.

If all that is not enough to entice you to attend, how about free admission, the Fountain Square Art Parade at 4pm and Masterpiece in a Day?

As the name suggests, Masterpiece in a Day is an art and writing competition in which the entries are all started and finished in one day. It will take place in the Murphy Arts Building on Virginia Avenue in Fountain Square beginning at 9am. Completed works are due by 3:30pm, with winners announced at 5pm. Entry into the contest is open to all ages and is free.
