This year’s Indiana State Fair, which is celebrating the “Year of Pigs,” will be held August 6 – 22, giving you 16 days to pig out on the incredible sights, sounds and smells of the Fair with your family and friends.
I always go to the Fair at least twice while it’s open. The first time I go, we take the whole family and stick to the kids’ agenda, which usually includes the Midway, a stop at the Dairy Bar, time to see the 4H projects (the kids like the cakes the best) and a visit to see the “World’s Largest Boar.”
Then, later, my husband and I sneak away to the Fair again for date night. We don’t tell the kids where we’re going because they’d whine about wanting to go again, too. Mike and I spend hours in the Home & Family Arts Building, checking out the photography exhibition, the quilts and other things that make understand why the name “arts” is on the building. We treat ourselves to roasted corn, pork tenderloin sandwiches, and ice cream too.

Sow-per Admission Deals
BMV Carload Day — Round up all your family, friends and neighbors for the BMV’s Carload Day. Click here for a $15 carload coupon good for admission of up to 10 people in one vehicle on Monday, August 16.
Check your local library. Often, Indiana State Fair tickets are offered as prizes in library summer reading programs.
Discount admission tickets in advance are just $7, a savings of $1 per ticket. They will be available mid-July at all Indiana Wal-Mart stores, CVS/pharmacy stores, Indiana Farm Bureau offices, The Marten House Hotel, the Indiana State Fairgrounds Box Office. Kids 5 and younger are free every day.
Midway/Admission combo pass – Now through August 8, visit any Indiana Walmart store to purchase a Midway/Admission combo pass for just $25. That’s a savings of $8!
Free Admission Ticket in the Indianapolis Star – The Indianapolis Star will offer a free ticket in the newspaper on Monday, August 9 good for Wednesday, August 11 and Thursday, August 12. Watch The Star later that week for more surprises!
Indygo Downtown Lunch Bunch – On Thursday, August 12, downtown workers who take the IndyGo Route 39 bus for $1.75 from 11 am to 2 pm will receive free admission to the Fair through Gate 1A on 38th St. For trip planning assistance, visit www.indygo.net or call (317) 635-3344.
Free Admission for State Employees – All state employees are admitted to the fair for free on Thursday, August 12, with the presentation of an employee ID card.
Free Admission for Military Personnel and Families – The State Fair is honoring our current and former members of the Armed Forces by offering free admission for them and family members on Sunday, August 19, with presentation of a military ID or veterans’ membership card. $2 Discount with Pepsi Product Can – All visitors who bring any Pepsi brand can on the fair’s final day, August 22, will receive $2 off the gate admission.

Free Lottery Ticket – On Saturday, August 14, all guests at least 18 years old can redeem their fair ticket from 10 am to 7pm at either of the two Hoosier Lottery Booths, at the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand or on the north side at DowAgrosciences Celebration Park.
Tractor Shuttle Ride Discounts for Seniors – All seniors, age 55 and older, can ride the tractor shuttles around the Fairgrounds for just $3/day when they purchase a special wristband at the State Fair Information Booths located in Pioneer Village and on State Fair Blvd. On Golden Hoosiers’ Day, August 17, seniors can ride the tractor shuttles for free!

Free parking — is available on a first-come, first-served basis inside the fairgrounds. Enter through Gate 1 off 38th Street, Gate 6 off Fall Creek Parkway., Gate 10 off 42nd Street or Gate 16 off 42nd Street.
Free Park & Ride — When you park at Glendale Mall’s Rural Street lot, you can ride the Indiana State Fair shuttle for FREE! The shuttle runs every 20 minutes from 10am to 10pm each day of the fair.
