Artists from the Midwest have been selected to paint murals throughout Wayne County, Indiana during the Festival of Murals. Production begins June 2, 2010 on many of the murals. Artists have until August†1st to complete their murals. They will be competing for the top prize of $5,000.
In Richmond, six walls have been selected and matched with the following artists: Damon Reed of Chicago, IL and Pete’s Corner Cafe; Amy Rhinehardt of Indianapolis, IN and the new Firehouse Barbeque Bar & Grill; Justin Montavon of West College Corner,†OH†and Bertie’s Music Bar; Diana Toschlog of Richmond, IN and Richmond Hardware; Joe Thompson of Centerville, IN†and Richmond Civic Theatre; and Mark Gardner of Centerville, IN and Paust Printers.
Hagerstown, Indiana will receive a mural on the Logston Building, also known as Grandview Pharmacy, painted by Amy Mitchell of Eaton, OH. Carly Mattingly of Cambridge City, IN†will paint on the National Road Antique Mall there. Festival Director, Pamela Bliss, will paint on the US Bank in Cambridge City as part of the festival but will not be competing for the awards.
The public is encouraged to vote for their favorite mural. Awards will be announced at the Starr-Gennett Music Festival†in Richmond on September 11, 2010.
The artistís designs will be on display at the Richmond Civic Theatre on June 1, 2010†from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A reception to meet the artists will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
The public will be able to take part in the Festival of Murals by painting on a community mural. Location will be announced on the festivalofmurals.com website on June 1. Youth groups will be painting murals to beautify areas in need of enhancement.
