Unique Family Fun in Fort Wayne

By admin on May 25, 2010

Looking to get away from home with your family this summer? Pile into the car and drive to Fort Wayne to see what Indiana’s second largest city has to offer. You may be a sports family, a science family or a history family, but no matter what, Fort Wayne will deliver a good time.

Don’t miss the excitement at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo! You’ll see animals you never knew existed, like servals, cotton-topped tamarins and sitatungas, along with favorites like sea lions, tigers, alligators and otters. If you’re looking for something especially cute, visit one of the many baby animals currently at the zoo, including lemurs, mongooses, penguins, monkeys and a giraffe. The zoo offers lots of fun activities throughout the day like sea lion and giraffe feedings and pony rides.

Get outdoors to enjoy that beautiful Indiana summer weather at a Fort Wayne TinCaps game. The team is the reigning Midwest League champion and with tickets priced at $5-$12, it’s an affordable outing for the whole family. Parkview Field is a unique location that features your choice of lawn, bench or theater seating and picnic areas inside the field for a true park feel. Performances by the Bad Apple Dancers during the seventh inning stretch and frequent post-game firework shows add another element to the excitement. Who doesn’t love a day at the ballpark?

If you’re hoping for an educational trip, Science Central is the place to be. Let your kids explore science firsthand with interactive exhibits like a tidal pool, moonwalk and weather station. Go to infinity and beyond this summer with the Hubble Space Telescope exhibit that lets you experience the universe in a whole new way as you “control” comets, use an infrared camera and view video of actual black holes. Or, take a big risk and ride the three-story tall high wire bicycle!

Between attractions, treat the family to a sweet taste of the city at DeBrand Fine Chocolates. Their morsels are world-famous and their variety of chocolates includes everything from Aztec with chili pepper to gourmet peanut butter and jelly, so there’s something for everyone. Then take a bite out of history at the Genealogy Center, where you can trace your ancestry and find out whom and what lies in your distant past.

School will be out before you know it, so start planning your family trip to Fort Wayne right away for a fun-filled summer! Check out this video for more info about Fort Wayne fun.
