I used to think that autumn in Indiana was my favorite season. As I get older and dislike the winter more and more, spring is inching its way toward “most favored” status. It’s the time of year when I’m ready to throw open the windows and head outdoors to shake off several months of hibernation.
We have our standard places we like to go — West Park and the Monon Trail in Carmel (though the Monon extends further north and south than just Carmel) and Holliday and Garfield Parks in Indianapolis. But sometimes, I get an itch to check out a new outdoor adventure.
So when I came across IndianaTrails.org, I couldn’t have been happier. The site, operated by the Greenways Foundation, provides maps for greenways, rail trails and multi-use trails throughout Indiana. It also offers information about the status, length and surface of the trails.
Some of the more than 90 trails you’ll find detailed at IndianaTrails.org include:
- Clarksville Heritage Trail (city of Clarksville)
- Nickel Plate Trail (Miami, Fulton and Howard counties)
- Pumpkinvine Nature Trail (Elkhart and LaGrange counties)
