As weather in March in Northwest Indiana can be unpredictable, an indoor activity can be the perfect getaway. I would recommend the Brauer Museum of Art, located on the campus of Valparaiso University. The Museum is open to visitors of all ages. They offer a wide range of artists and artistic mediums to see.
The Museum offers works from Asher B. Durand, Frederic Edwin Church, Childe Hassam, Ed Paschke and Georgia O’Keeffe. They also own the nation’s largest collection of Junius R. Sloan works. Sloan was a painter who developed out of the Hudson River School of painting. His works are beautifully presented at the Brauer Museum.
The admission to see these wonderful treasures is based on donations only. They also have regular traveling exhibitions. As their traveling exhibitions change often, make sure to check their website. Their permanent collection consists of mostly world religious art and Midwestern regional art. After a day of beautiful art, take a drive into historic downtown Valparaiso.
Valparaiso, which was built around when Valparaiso University was built, has a historic town square. The square offers many locally owned dinning options, and wonderful shopping. Make sure to make time to visit our square after a wonderful afternoon spent at the Brauer Museum of Art.
