Northwest Indiana is a place of great natural beauty but we are also an area of great culture.  Many believe that in order to take in a ballet or opera, one has to go to nearby Chicago.  Northwest Indiana is filled with all kinds of culture. So without further ado, let the curtain rise:

The Indiana Ballet Theatre: Located in Crown Point, Indiana, this ballet performs regularly. This non-for profit ballet has been charming Northwest Indiana audiences for the past seventeen years. The ballet performs a quality show and is totally worth going to see. Website

The Theatre at The Center: This Theatre is located in Munster, Indiana, which is located near the Illinois/Indiana border.  This theatre has been a  landmark in Northwest Indiana for many years. They are renowned for their quality performances. Website

The Star Plaza Theatre: The Star Plaza offers a vast array of entertainment from magicians to Sesame Street Live to the home of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra.  The Star Plaza is located in Merriville, Indiana, connected to the Radisson Hotel. The Radisson offers tickets to a show at the Star Plaza Theatre and a room in an affordable package. Website

The Chicago Street Theatre: This Theater is located in Valparaiso, Indiana. They perform shows regularly and are affordable. They perform many different shows through out the year.  This theatre is located behind the town square which gives easy access to the fine dining on the square. Website

The Memorial Opera House: This Opera offers a vast array of entertainment.  The building that houses the Opera is also historically significant, John Philip Sousa once led a concert here and the Marx Brothers have also preformed on the stage here. The Opera House is located off the Southeast corner of the square in Valparaiso, Indiana. Website

The  Towle Theater: The Towle Theater is located in Hammond, Indiana, where the movie, A Christmas Story was set. They perform regularly and are worth checking out. Website

Many towns have community theaters and other cultural events. The public library is a wonderful place to look for information on culture events. So, if you’re in town, stop by the local library and you can see all the local happening. Also be sure to check on the web pages for towns as they can be a wonderful resource.
