Deep River Water Park in Crown Point isn’t just for summer fun anymore, now the park can be enjoyed this winter too. No, not as a water park but as an ice skating rink. Deep River Water Park is opening “Skating on the Plaza” this year for young and old to come enjoy. All skill levels are invited to come share the ice.
The “Skate The Plaza” opens on November 27, 2009 and runs until February 28, 2010 as weather permits. You are more then welcome to bring your own ice skates or rent them from the park for a small fee. The skating rink is built right within the park and has underground ice cooling pipes to keep the ice fresh. The park has varying hours, I would recommend visiting their website for the downloadable calendar which shows the dates and times when the park will be open. The calendar can be found here.
There are a few rules, to ensure that enjoyment is had by all. The park requests that no outside food or drink is brought into the park. There are food and beverage vendors inside the park, to serve up that perfect cup of hot cocoa. Another request that the park has is please do not bring in hockey equipment or play any hockey games on the ice. Hockey equipment will not be permitted inside the park. Alcohol is strictly prohibited from entering the park as well, since the ice rink is family friendly.
The park will provide heated areas to warm up if you get a bit too chilly. The park will also offer ice skating lessons for the first time this year. Classes are broken down by age and are held on Thursday’s. The lessons are sold as a set of 7. The cost for iceskating lessons is $56 for all seven lessons.
A full list of admission prices and skate rental information can also be found on the Deep River Water Park’s website. If you would like to hold a holiday or winter skating party at “Skate the Plaza” group rental rates are available.
