If you’ve watched the news at all in the past 10 months, you’ve probably heard that Elkhart, Indiana is struggling a bit. Like many places in the country, Elkhart has seen job layoffs, but there’s so much more to Elkhart.
Recently, the Elkhart Centre – the 22-year-old not-for-profit downtown revitalization organization – merged with Elkhart Downtown, Inc., and the Downtown Elkhart Business Association to form the new Downtown Elkhart, Inc. Downtown Elkhart, Inc.’s mission is to “promote a positive community perception of our downtown and increasing investment in the heart of the city” (DEI).
Among the fun things to do in Elkhart are the Elkhart Riverwalk, a great place for kids to splash and play in the summer, and an ice skating rink in the winter. Elkhart is also putting $17 million dollars into the Lerner Performing Arts Center (formerly the Elco Theater).
If you’re looking for some great dining options, check out The Vine and 523 Tap & Grill. Interested in tasting some locally-brewed beer? Stop by Mad Anthony’s Brewery (more about Mad Anthony’s here). And, if nightlife is your thing, you have to go to the newly-remodeled Harrison Landing.
You can see all about these locations and more by checking out this great video about Downtown Elkhart put together by Downtown Elkhart Inc. and Elkhart-based agency, Explore Media.
