The Bean Blossom Blues, Brews, and BBQ Music Festival

If you like blues and you like barbecue (and who doesn’t?), you need to get to the Bill Monroe Memorial Music Park for the 2009 Bean Blossom Blues Fest.

The festival, otherwise known as The Bean, is a 4-day camping, music, and food festival that brings together all that is good and pure in musical and gastronomic delights. The whole thing starts on Thursday, August 27 (gates open at 9 am), and you can stay until Sunday morning. The concert and other festivities will start around Friday at 5:30, but if I had to guess, there will be something going on for the 44.5 hours before things kick off.

But the Bean is more than just great blues music, they have barbecue championship as well. With over $5,000 at stake in 4 meat categories chicken, pork ribs, pork, and beef brisket the prize money will be paid to the top 7 finishers in each category. This is an official Indiana State Championship barbecue, so the grand champion will be allowed to compete in the American Royal Barbecue. Competition is hot, and the food will be outstanding.

You can get tickets for the entire weekend for $50 per person for the weekend at the gate, or pay for a single day ($10 for Thursday, $25 for Friday, $30 for Saturday = $65 total). Kids 12 and under are free. You can also get the Family Saver Ticket for $125 per family for the entire weekend. This covers 2 parents and all your offspring between the ages of 13 and 21.

You can reach the BMMMP on State Road 135, just 5 miles north of Nashville. See the website for a map, or just Google the park yourself.

The Bean organizers recommend you bring lawn chairs, because while they’ve had great weather every year, the show will go on, even if it rains (they will cancel if there is lightning or a lot of rain, but there are no refunds).?
