Originally opened on October 20, 1900, the Zaharakos candy store has been serving the citizens of Columbus, IN for more than 100 years. For the past two years, Zaharakos has been undergoing some major renovations. They have purchased the storefront right next to theirs and will have twice the amount of space that the original establishment occupied.
They have also refinished the circa-1890’s maple floors and have brought in many pieces from the turn of the 20th century. Some of those pieces include two Mexican onyx soda fountains from the 1904 World’s Fair, a Tiffany-style stained-glass and marble lamp from 1905 and a 1908 self-playing Welte Orchestrion (think of a self-playing piano on a much grander scale).
Zaharakos is open Monday-Friday from 8am – 8 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 8 pm.
